How I Treat Cancer, You can judge the data
Here is a post from Cal Crilly, an Aussie musician who has done a lot of reading on different biological pathways involved with Aids and Cancer. In this article he describes what foods he found can be of help if you or one of your loved ones have cancer. Take it as research and advice from a friend. Cal isn't a doctor, but he can read and put things together. Remember though - the decision whether you will go the orthodox route of treatment or try and wiggle your way out by adjusting nutrition is ultimately yours to take.

Disclaimer: This is not medical advice. It's merely a record of one man's research and you're supposed to come to your own conclusions.

Researcher Demonstrates Non-Traditional Therapy is Effective as Pain Management
An intentionally directed process of energy modulation to promote healing, NCTT allows practitioners to channel life energy through their hands to patients in a four-phase process. The four phases - centering, assessment, “unruffling” the field and intervention - allow a restoration of balance that enables ailing individuals to heal themselves. However, acceptance of the ideas that the human body is an energy-producing organism and that energy can be directed to benefit health is critical said Guy McCormack, lead researcher for the study and chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy and Occupational Science in the MU School of Health Professions.

Omega-3 fatty acids prevent medical complications of obesity
"Our study shows for the first time that lipids called protectins and resolvins derived from omega-3 fatty acids can actually reduce the instance of liver complications, such as hepatic steatosis and insulin resistance, in obese people," stated Joan Claria, a professor from the University of Barcelona and one of the researchers involved in the work.

ANH broadens its campaign
The Alliance for Natural Health, a group pushing for the continued availability of effective, high dose food supplements, announced that it will include information on the dangers of genetically modified foods and the need for free choice with regard to vaccination in its campaign activities.

Women’s Multivitamin Study: ‘A little, too late’ study, designed to fail
The Alliance for Natural Health (ANH) says that the latest study which claims to show that multivitamin supplements don’t prevent cancer or heart disease, is a waste of public money. These funds, says the ANH, could be much more usefully spent on aspects of preventative medicine where a positive result was more likely.

Women's Multivitamin Study Seriously Flawed, As Usual
A new study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine claims that multivitamins are useless at preventing cancer and cardiovascular disease in women. The mainstream media has predictably picked up on this story, gleefully running it as "proof" that nutrition is worthless and only pharmaceuticals can enhance your health.

What they're not telling you, though, might shock you...

Codex: Breaking the U.N.'s Code X
Codex is laying siege to our freedom of choice, let’s try and stop it.

The inconvenient truth for our elected representatives, their families and staff is, they Have to Eat and take vitamins and supplements… just like us. So go ahead and email, fax and phone, this is one email campaign that might just work.

It's going to come down to a massive rebellion. The DSHEA law that kept the FDA off our backs was passed because millions and millions of letters were sent to people in Congress demanding health freedom.

Biotech industry fakes growth of GM crops in Europe
The group [EuropaBio] inflated the figures by almost a quarter in 2008 to mask an actual decline. The misleading numbers are used by companies to make genetically modified farming appear more widespread than it really is. In reality public opposition and safety-conscious European governments mean that planting of GM crops in Europe has decreased every year since 2005 with an overall drop of 35 per cent.

"Fake it 'till you make it" seems to be the maxim of the biotechnology crowd. Lying to show growth in Europe would of course mean more ready acceptance of their modified and patented seeds in developing countries... and that's what the game is all about, it seems - getting those modified seeds used by farmers world wide.

Bt Brinjal (toxic Eggplant) Unfit for Human Consumption
Release of Bt brinjal into the environment for food, feed and cultivation may present a serious risk for human and animal health; the GM aubergine is unfit for consumption. That's the verdict of French scientist Professor Gilles-Eric Seralini of the Committee for Independent Research and Information on Genetic Engineering, who carried out the first ever independent assessment of Monsanto-Mahyco's dossier on toxicity tests submitted to the Indian regulatory authorities.

Professor Seralini, commissioned by Greenpeace India to undertake the assessment, said his key findings were statistically significant differences between groups of animals fed GM and non-GM brinjal in the raw data, which were discounted...

Thailand Declares 13 Herbs as "Hazardous" Substances
Farmers and traditional medicine experts have reacted angrily to the listing of 13 widely used herbal plants as hazardous substances, suggesting there is a hidden agenda that favours chemical companies.

The Industry Ministry listed the 13 plants as hazardous substances to control production and commercialisation.

The plants are widely used among farmers as alternatives for expensive and toxic farm chemicals, pesticides and herbicides.

Doctors Handcuffed By Government On Natural Remedies
As medical science begins to accept the idea that natural remedies can be as effective, if not more effective, than pharmaceuticals, it seems the gap between those treatments and the patients who need them widen, according to Dr. Zennet.

"Mainstream medicine may show considerable resistance; natural health followers are quite apprehensive about pharmaceuticals and the mainstream health care system as a whole," she said. "Thus, we have two completely separate and distinct worlds of health care that rarely communicate and collaborate with each other. Yet patients are seeking this integration, from their doctors and from the health care system as a whole."

Negative Results of Clinical Trials Given to FDA May Go Unpublished
Unfavorable industry-sponsored drug studies may wind up buried in the bowels of the FDA after the agency's scrutiny, never coming to light in the open medical literature, said researchers. But trials with results that cast a drug's safety and efficacy favorably are more likely to emerge in the literature, reported Lisa Bero, Ph.D., of the University of California San Francisco, and colleagues online in Public Library of Science Medicine.

US: New Mexico Senate asks FDA to take Aspartame off the market
Gerald Ortiz y Pino, New Mexico State Senator, writes to acting FDA Commissioner Frank Torti.

"Dr. Torti, this chemical has produced a massive mountain of medical and neurodengenerative evidence, which I believe would lead you to order it removed from the market. While it is too late to do this now as a "precaution"; it is even more imperative to do this as a means of preventing further medical harm to future victims."

Study reveals high level of adverse drug reactions in hospitals
"A significant predictor of ADRs in hospitals is the number of medications a patient is taking; each additional drug treatment increases the risk of experiencing an adverse drug reaction. This is one of the reasons why elderly people experience a higher incidence of ADRs than young people, as they have more health conditions and generally take more medications.

"Our results show that the overall burden of ADRs on hospitals is high and therefore new methods of intervention are needed to reduce this. The results are consistent with data from other parts of the world and this is therefore not just an issue for Merseyside hospitals, but hospitals throughout the Western world.

Fibromyalgia: Disease Or Marketing Ploy?
"I think the purpose of most pharmaceutical company efforts is to do a little disease-mongering and to have people use their drugs," said Dr. Frederick Wolfe, who was lead author of the guidelines defining fibromyalgia in 1990 but has since become one of its leading skeptics.

Whatever the motive, the push has paid off. Between the first quarter of 2007 and the fourth quarter of 2008, sales rose from $395 million to $702 million for Pfizer's Lyrica, and $442 million to $721 million for Lilly's Cymbalta.

Protecting America's Children from Psychiatric Abuse
Alaska attorney Jim Gottstein has taken the bull by the horns. It's a bull of many terrifying shapes and forms. First and foremost, it is the raging bull of the Psychopharmaceutical Complex that is goring America's children. It's also the rampaging state government bull that everywhere runs roughshod over the children in its custody and care. And then it's the "bull" handed out by drug companies and organized psychiatry to justify using drugs to suppress the behavior of children.

Jim Gottstein's Law Project for Psychiatric Rights (PsychRights.org) has gone to court to stop the drugging of Alaska's children.

Psychiatric Drugging of Children - Intolerable
by Evelyn Pringle
On September 2, 2008, the Law Project for Psychiatric Rights filed what is sure to become a landmark case against the State of Alaska aimed at stopping the over prescribing of psychiatric drugs to children covered by public health care programs in that state.

"The massive over-drugging of America's youth is an unfolding national horror," says attorney Jim Gottstein, the leader of the Law Project.

"The corrupt influence of the pharmaceutical industry in illegally promoting much of this drugging has been well established," Mr Gottstein says, "yet the state continues to inflict great harm on the children it has taken away from their families by giving them these drugs."

"It is absurd to think all these children have a mental illness," he states. "They are being drugged because they are upset and bothering people."

"Because decisions to administer medication to children are not made by the children themselves, the administration of psychotropic drugs is involuntary," Mr Gottstein explains.

Bloomberg: Pfizer to Publicly Disclose Payments to U.S. Doctors
New York Times: Pfizer to Reveal Sizable Payments to Doctors
Comment by Vince:
The line for the confessional is getting longer, folks.

Don't you just love the zeal of the newly converted? Even gunpoint conversions (ie. Sen. Grassley's committee) count in the race to save the souls of the G_dless pharmaceutical industry.

Pfizer has just joined Eli Lilly in providing an online database of payments to the docs, including the million dollar "thought leaders".

Nothing like the fear of the Lord to break the conspiracy of silence that has ruled for the past 100 years.

Confession is indeed good for the soul. Pass the collection basket!

Psychiatrists may cut some ties to drug firms
In 2002, he earned $30,000 in speaking fees to promote Wyeth's antidepressant Effexor XR to fellow doctors.

"I quit doing it because I felt I was beginning to push some ethical boundaries in terms of what I was saying and what I was not saying," said Carlat, a psychiatry professor at Tufts University in Boston who believes doctors need to cut their financial ties with drug companies.

Vaccine Drug Company Now Targeting Boys For Profit
“The claim that Gardasil prevents penile cancer is based on a study of 16 to 26-year olds, funded by the drug company Merck which sells the drug, and the study lasted only five years,” says Bob McCoskrie, National Director of Family First NZ. “But penile cancer does not normally present until a person reaches the age of 50, and is extremely rare at approximatey 1 in 100,000 men.”

“There has also been no research on whether the vaccine actually reduces the carriage of HPV in the community and this is acknowledged by NZ’s Immunisation Advisory Centre.”

“Any research by Merck should be treated with extreme caution as they have just funded a $4.85 billion payout to settle 26,500 lawsuits regarding Vioxx – a painkiller which caused heart attacks, strokes or deaths."

Tables turning on Vaccine proponents
It appears that vaccine proponents are getting desperate to curb the growing numbers of people opposing vaccine mandates. On January 13, 2009, several newspapers announced the release of Paul Offit’s latest book, "Autism’s False Prophets: Bad Science, Risky Medicine and the Search for a Cure." In the article, pediatrician and vaccine patent holder Paul Offit claims to have written the book because he is infuriated by the claim that vaccines cause autism and is mobilizing a backlash against the anti-vaccine movement in the United States.

Often referred to as "Dr. Proffit," vaccine opponents dismiss Paul Offit’s one-sided articles and books due to his financial ties to the pharmaceutical industry. For instance, Offit received $millions in royalties for developing the Rotateq vaccine and making sure it was added to the schedule of vaccines recommended by the CDC for children nationwide.

Take Action:Call for Formal Enquiry into Wakefield Witch-hunt - Petition
British journalist Brian Deer of the Sunday Times is the point of origin of a witch hunt against three scientists who reported on cases of children that fell sick after MMR vaccinations with autism-like symptoms.

In the attempt to discredit Dr Wakefield and the other defendants, the prosecution, employed and paid for by the GMC, has suggested that none of the children referred to the Royal Free Hospital were actually ill. In order to support this suggestion, they have had to ensure that none of the parents of vaccine damaged children appear at the hearing. Meanwhile, in the background, Brian Deer has mounted significant attacks on these parents, accusing them of manufacturing information about the illnesses suffered by their children, and about its cause.

Deer's new attack on Dr Wakefield is equally an attack on the parents and children who sought treatment at the Royal Free Hospital and represents a new low for British journalism. The parents of vaccine damaged children will not be silenced and research into possible causes and treatments will continue. Members of the public, parents, doctors and scientists worldwide are now calling for a formal enquiry into the activities of Brian Deer, the Sunday Times and their connection and co-operation with the vaccine industry.

Vaccines don't cause autism, special court says
The special masters who decided the case expressed sympathy for the families, some of whom have made emotional pleas describing their children's conditions, but the rulings were blunt: There's little if any evidence to support claims of a vaccine-autism link.

We should keep in mind that the special vaccine courts were established to keep claims for compensation for vaccine damage out of the normal courts. Some say, the purpose of this kind of special court is to make sure court decisions will not be interfering with the policy of state mandated vaccination.

The deadly for-profit industry that is so called HIV-AIDS
A great post with resources linked to get further information on the dark side of the HIV/Aids paradigm.

YOU ARE STILL BEING LIED TO
It’s an enlarged and revised edition of the original “You are being lied to”, and it includes an essay of mine (this is a big file, nearly 8MB pdf, takes about 1 minute to download for me):

“Confession of an ‘AIDS denialist’: how I became a crank through being lied to about HIV/AIDS”

The intended audience for this essay is neither AIDS Rethinkers nor AIDStruthers, it’s aimed at interesting in this matter people who haven’t much thought about it before, having just assumed that the public propaganda about HIV and AIDS is soundly based.

A Bailout for the People: Dividend Economics and the Basic Income Guarantee
Open Letter to Dr. Joseph Stiglitz and Challenge to Debate
"The problem does not lie with the financial sector except that the debt-based monetary system acts as a parasite on the producing economy, resulting in the vast overhang of debt that can never be repaid. “Resuscitating the flow of lending” will do no good, because the collapse of consumer purchasing power due to job outsourcing and income stagnation has made it impossible for people to pay their debts. Most of this debt now needs to be written off and our producing economy restored as our chief source of wealth."

Exxon Mobil sets record with $45.2 billion profit
Exxon Mobil Corp. on Friday reported a profit of $45.2 billion for 2008, breaking its own record for a U.S. company, even as its fourth-quarter earnings fell 33 percent from a year ago. The previous record for annual profit was $40.6 billion, which the world's largest publicly traded oil company set in 2007.

With the oil price going from $50 to 150 and back down to $40, can there be any doubt that the price was manipulated with huge profits in mind? I'd say it was. As a matter of fact I did say so on my other blog on physics, new energy and economy some time ago - see Squeezing Energy for Profit

Climate Change: Taking the Long View
By controlling emissions of fossil fuels we may be able to greatly delay the start of the next ice age, new research from the Niels Bohr Institute at University of Copenhagen concludes.

In a paper published in the scientific journal Geophysical Research Letters 'Long time management of fossil fuels to limit global warming and avoid ice age onsets', Professor Gary Shaffer of the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, and also leader of the research team at the Danish Center for Earth System Science (DCESS), outlines a way to keep the Earth out of both Hot- and Icehouses for a half a million years into the future.

EU Food Authority approves Fluoride in Supplements - NewsGrabs 8 February 2009

Monday, February 16th, 2009

EU Food Authority double standard: Fluoride source approved for use in Supplements
The opinion [approving calcium fluoride as a nutrient source] appears to be in stark contrast with the over-cautious evaluation of vital nutrients (vitamins and minerals) in progress. A scientific dossier proving the safety of those nutrient sources is required before EFSA will consent to their use in supplements, and limiting dosages are being considered to make sure there is not a shadow of a possibility of an 'adverse effect'.

Fluoride: Now it can be added to our food
The ANH’s medical director, Dr Damien Downing, says: “It’s bad enough brushing your teeth or rinsing your mouth with fluoride. But opening up its usage to food supplements, when it’s very difficult to control how much other fluoride a person is being exposed to, is utterly irresponsible.”

Comment by a friend who campaigns against fluoridation of the water supply in Ireland: "A strict legal interpretation would argue that these medicinal qualities are not supposed but actual. The EU Medicines Directive defines a medicine as any substance for which a claim is made 'to prevent or treat a disease in humans'."

Fluoride - ANH Open Letter to the European Food Safety Authority
Our view is that EFSA’s methodologies do not adequately reflect the known science and so are sometimes unnecessarily cautious. In other cases, such as in the case of the sodium monofluorophosphate opinion, EFSA appears to have gone the other way, giving a positive opinion by using different methodologies that could expose some population groups, notably children, to significant risks.

The EU regulatory pressure pot: a major threat to our future health
The regulatory pressure pot that aims to stop 500 million Europeans accessing therapeutically useful natural health products is approaching bursting point.

Within two months we should see what vitamin and mineral dosages the European Commission aims to set as maximums across the EU.
January 2010 then signals the delayed ban of a host of vitamin and mineral forms that won't have been ‘proven’ safe or bioavailable.

Simultaneously, the very same pressure pot wants to deliver us more and more genetically engineered food, increasingly being shown to pose very significant risks both to our health and the environment.

Sweden: Government bans all use of mercury
"Sweden is now leading the way in removing and protecting the environment from mercury, which is non-degradable. The ban is a strong signal to other countries and a Swedish contribution to EU and UN aims to reduce mercury use and emissions," said Swedish Minister for the Environment Andreas Carlgren.

The Government's decision means that products containing mercury may not be placed on the Swedish market. In practice, this means that alternative techniques will have to be used in dental care, chemical analysis and industry.

Vitamins: It's Dose that Does It
Thousands upon thousands of nutritional research studies provide evidence that vitamins do help prevent and treat serious diseases, including cancer and heart disease, when the nutrients are supplied in sufficiently high doses. High doses are required. Low doses fail. Says cardiologist Thomas Levy, M.D.: "The three most important considerations in effective vitamin C therapy are dose, dose, and dose. If you don't take enough, you won't get the desired effects."

Vitamin D linked to better muscle power
After controlling for differences in the girls' body weight, the girls with the highest vitamin D levels had the highest jump speeds, jump height, power and force.

This potential muscle advantage adds to the growing list of evidence positioning vitamin D as a super nutrient. Well known for its role in keeping bones strong, vitamin D is now being hailed for so much more. Emerging science suggests vitamin D may also help protect against diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and certain cancers. It may also support a healthy immune system to ward off infections, and some preliminary evidence suggests it may affect longevity.

Vitamin D 'helps control MS genes'
A UK and Canadian team found that vitamin D helps to control a gene known to increase MS risk, the PLoS Genetics journal reports.

It suggests that vitamin D supplements taken during pregnancy and early in life could prevent the disease.

This is an indication that our genes do not "fix things" for life, but react to environmental factors, such as the availability of sunlight (vitamin D) to 'switch' one way or another.

Gut bacteria can manufacture defences against cancer and inflammatory bowel disease
In a paper published in the journal Microbiology, researchers from the University of Aberdeen Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health and from the MTT Agrifood Research Institute in Finland report initial studies showing that bacteria in the human gut convert linoleic acid, a naturally-occurring fat in the diet, into a form called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which is absorbed by the gut wall.

And that is by far not the only good thing those healthy gut bacteria manufacture. I always said it - go easy on those antibiotics!

Diet key to blood pressure
It's not clear how fruits and veggies exert their effect, though it likely has something to do with vitamin and mineral content. A new study from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute sheds light on this, suggesting that higher vitamin C levels are linked to healthy blood pressure. In the Growth and Health Study, 242 girls ages 8-11 were followed for 10 years, and their blood pressure and vitamin C blood levels were measured regularly.

Researchers found that the girls with the highest blood levels of vitamin C had lower systolic and diastolic blood pressures. It wasn't clear if the vitamin was helping to lower blood pressure or there was a marker for some other healthy nutrient.

Are we selling personalized medicine before its time?
We may be a long way off from using genetics to reliably gauge our risks for specific diseases, say researchers at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health in a study published on Feb. 5 in the online journal PLoS Genetics. Yet, many companies currently offer personalized genetic testing for diseases like cancer, heart disease and diabetes, and tout the ability of DNA testing to predict future health risks.

Canada Natural Products Legislation: Bill C-51 Is Back As Bill C-6
Not surprisingly this is exactly the kind of strategy that was expected, given that Bill C-52 (which was very much like the original C-51) got though while the masters of deception had us busy with C-51.

"Bill C-6 gives powers to inspectors to stop the importation or sale of a product and to seize property and documents, based entirely on the inspector’s “belief” that a product may be harmful. There is no requirement for the inspector to produce any documented proof nor scientific evidence of harm. There is a requirement to get a warrant if the goods and evidence to be seized are in a personal dwelling; however, such warrant could be issued over the telephone by a judge who would base his decision entirely on the unsubstantiated “belief” of the inspector.."

Just How Corrupted Has American Medicine Become?
After reading "The Neurontin Legacy -- Marketing through Misinformation and Manipulation" in the January 8, 2009 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, one may conclude that (1) America's prisons would be put to better use incarcerating drug company executives instead of pot smokers, and (2) society may need a return of public scorn via the pillory for those doctors who are essentially drug-company shills.

Drug-company corruption of American medicine is of course not news. What is news is that such corruption has become so egregious, so transparent, and so embarrassing that the New England Journal of Medicine, perhaps the most influential American medical journal, is now stating that "drastic action is essential to preserve the integrity of medical science and practice and to justify public trust."

Pharma advertising biases journals against food supplements
Researchers from Wake Forest University School of Medicine and the University of Florida found that "in major medical journals, more pharmaceutical advertising is associated with publishing fewer articles about dietary supplements". They also found that more pharmaceutical company advertising resulted in the journal having more articles with "negative conclusions about dietary supplement safety".

Life Extension Foundation on the FDA - Would You Tolerate This Abuse?
It is now time again to educate Congress about the urgent need to reform the FDA. I plan to use the enormous success of long distance phone deregulation to help persuade the public and Congress that today's health care cost crisis will largely disappear if we return to free market principles in health care.

To persuade Congress to address this monumental problem, a Petition to Reform the FDA has been drafted.

Our first mission is to collect so many names on the Reform FDA Petition that it compels Congressional action. We will hand deliver the Petition to Congressional leaders and urge them to enact comprehensive FDA reform.

Obama's New Chef Skewers School Lunches
In May, over a meal of locally-produced beef and barley soup, Mr. Kass lamented the sorry state of the National School Lunch Program, which provides low-cost or free lunches to schoolchildren. He noted that what gets served up to kids is influenced by government agricultural subsidies. As a result, he says, meals served to students are low in vegetables and disproportionately high in fat, additives, preservatives and high-fructose corn syrup. (He also links the high consumption of sugary foods and food additives to learning difficulties and attention deficit disorder, although the medical community remains divided on that issue.)

Principal Says Banning Sugar Made Students Smarter
According to Butler, standardized test scores increased 15 percent at the school within the first year of the program. She said discipline problems decreased by 23 percent. Student health has improved and obesity at the school has been virtually eliminated.

5 Food Films That Deserved an Oscar Nomination
While these food films flew under the Academy's radar, at least when it came time to nominate, that doesn't mean they all didn't deserve a nod, or at least a closer look.

If you watch all of these films you'll understand where our food system stands today, a little bit about how it got that way, and you'll have some insight into what it might look like in the future. There's a scary, uncertain future built on greed and there's a bright, progressive future built on community. I reckon we end up with the latter, and I hope these films help you make choices to become a part of that future.

Video:Artificial Sweeteners Cause Weight Gain
A study shows that consuming foods sweetened with artificial sweeteners actually leads to more weight gain than if one consumes foods with regular sugar. I want to also add even though it is not mentioned in this video that aspartame which is present in many artificial sweeteners is a carcinogen (it causes cancer). I am in agreement that conventional white sugar is unhealthy (although not as unhealthy as artificial sweeteners). One tablespoon of conventional white sugar ...

Battle Against Genetically Modified Sugar Beets
A lawsuit filed last year to stop sales of Monsanto's Roundup Ready genetically modified sugar beet seed will be argued in a US District Court of Northern California on April 3. Frank Morton, owner of Wild Garden Seeds and a plaintiff in the lawsuit, says the GM beets threaten his livelihood. Morton produces seed for organic chard, table beets, and other vegetables in Oregon's Willamette Valley where seed for the GM beets is also grown.

Cross pollination between GM sugar beets and related plants, such as chard and table beets, is a major threat in the Willamette Valley where sugar beets are the predominant crop. Morton says there are many areas where chard and sugar beet fields are "rubbing up against one another." The two plants cross pollinate because they are the same species.

Pfizer's Plan to Buy Rival Wyeth Could Mean Bad News for Patients, Physician Says
The core problem with American medicine isn't really access or cost. It's that medical knowledge itself has been turned into a commodity, produced and disseminated with the primary goal of optimizing profits rather than health. Eighty-five percent of clinical trials are now commercially funded, and the odds are four to five times greater that the commercially funded trials will conclude that the sponsor's drug is the treatment of choice compared with noncommercially funded trials of exactly the same drugs, according to a lecture given at Harvard Medical School in October by Dr. Catherine D. DeAngelis, the editor in chief of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

That's just the beginning...

Trovan Case in the US: Pfizer and Nigerian Officials Both Charged
A recent ruling allows the Nigerian plaintiffs (or their survivors) to file suit in the United States. What had been less clear to me is that the charges brought concern both illicit behavior by Pfizer as well as complicity by some number of Nigerian officials.

I do not know whether it was alleged they were "on the take," but earlier studies suggest that pharma ranks number one in bribery used overseas. Braithewaite (1984) - certainly no radical - writes that "the pharmaceutical industry has a worse record of international bribery and corruption than any other industry."

The 'Trovan Case', for those who don't remember, deals with what Nigerian officials say were unauthorized trials of a new antibiotic that Pfizer ran in that country, which caused several deaths and other damaging effects on the test subjects. I continue to be intrigued by the similarity of Pfizer's Trovan experiments with what is described by John Le Carré in his novel "The Constant Gardener".

Evelyn Pringle: SSRI Pushers under Fire
For years, the research that showed SSRI antidepressants (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) were dangerous and practically useless was kept hidden, while the studies published and presented to potential prescribers painted a glowing picture of success. These days, a person would be hard pressed to find someone who does not have a family member or friend labeled mentally ill and taking drugs like Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro and Celexa, or their chemical cousins Effexor, Cymbalta and Wellbutrin.

Ritalin may cause changes in the brain’s reward areas
“Methylphenidate, which is thought to be a fairly innocuous compound, can have structural and biochemical effects in some regions of the brain that can be even greater than those of cocaine,” says Kim. “Further studies are needed to determine the behavioral implications of these changes and to understand the mechanisms by which these drugs affect synapse formation.”

Canada: Over 800 complaints on quit-smoking drug
A drug commonly used to help people quit smoking is the focus of more than 800 complaints from Canadian users, many of them reporting mood swings, depression or suicidal thoughts.

One of the people to report a complaint to Health Canada, Erin Kerr of Hamilton said she was on Champix for a couple of months to try to quit smoking when she noticed dramatic changes in her personality — she had become intolerant, argumentative, emotional, and then one day, suicidal.

Psychiatry's 'Shock Doctrine': Are We Really OK With Electroshocking Toddlers?
You might think that before any child receives a series of 70 to 170 volts of brain zappings and is thrown into seizures, every other non-traumatic therapy would have been attempted. You might think that before using ECT, in addition to trying every type of psychotherapy, there would also be an exhaustive effort to find a therapist with whom a kid might genuinely connect. You might think all this, but you would be wrong. It is not unusual for psychiatrists to simply prescribe one drug, then another drug, then several drug combinations (called "cocktails"), and if those fail, recommend ECT.

Rick Simpson, the man who cured cancer with hemp oil and the force behind RUN FROM THE CURE: THE RICK SIMPSON STORY, is going across Canada to raise awareness of hemp medicine to all Canadians. The CRUSH CANCER tour will be internationally known and create awareness through great hosting sites like YouTube and Phoenixtearsmovie.com

Breast cancer risk drops after women stop hormone use
Studies repeatedly have linked long-term use of postmenopausal hormones to an increased risk of breast cancer, but new research suggests that the risk falls markedly within two years of quitting treatment.

"It looks like after a couple of years a woman is pretty much back to normal," says Rowan Chlebowski, lead author of a study today in The New England Journal of Medicine. "That's very encouraging."

Top Scientists Ask Journal "Science" To Retract Original AIDS Papers
(thirdd of three recent articles in the Rock Creek Free Press)
Thirty-seven doctors, senior researchers and attorneys have asked the journal Science to retract four articles published in 1984 that supposedly established that HIV was the cause of AIDS. The articles, by a group led by Dr. Robert Gallo, have drawn criticism for some time. An investigation in the early 90s by the US Department of Health and Human Services concluded that the lead paper was “fraught with false and erroneous statements.”

Secret British MMR Vaccine Files Forced Open By Legal Action
In the US Federal Court children are being compensated after findings they developed autism and other injuries. The British government has prevented its child citizens being compensated and treated. Money and politics override child health safety. 20 years on children continue to be injured. Starting in 1986 Canada, to 1988 Japan and the UK to the present this previously unpublished account is definitive carefully researched and accessible.

The problem is not just autism and not just the MMR vaccine. What else are we not being told?

UK Vaccine Hearings: A Sudden Silence Descends on the GMC as Miss Smith Stops Hammering
My latest report of the GMC hearing is up on the CryShame web site (www.cryshame.com). With the end of the this section of the hearing just finished, the case against the three defendants has been put and their defence argued. In March the counsel will give their closing speeches for which, time wasting to the last, the GMC has allowed at least a month. With Dr Wakefield's counsel due to speak only for a couple of days, and with Miss Smith asking for an extra week for preparation already - having had four years - everyone is wondering how the prosecution will organise their filibuster.

Following the closing speeches, and a months recess in April, it looks as though the 'deliberations' or the verdict will go on over a two month period and that the longest whitewash in history might finish after constant interruptions in August. We, the supporters of the three doctors on trial and the parents, should be prepared for this last period, we can assume that the GMC will arrange for the media to be there whenever there is an 'iffy' verdict. We have to create our own media outlets for the verdicts and ensure that we get the truth out.

Martin Walker's report on the hearings of the UK General Medical Council against three doctors accused of violating a sacred principle: "Thou shalt not talk bad about vaccines"... They had found that the measles virus introduced with vaccines was possibly implicated in the development of autism. Instead of further studies, the British Medical Council is bringing all its might to bear in a multi-year and multi-million-pound proceeding to silence what it believes unwarranted criticism of the vaccine once and for all.

Vaccine Court: Hepatitis B Shot Caused MS
The most recent case was announced about a week ago. In it, the Court ruled that the victim, an adult female, had contracted a form of demyelinating disease and MS, and eventually died, after receiving the Hepatitis B vaccine series. It was just the most recent case in a rash of rulings...

Cell phone use linked to brain tumors - Russian scientist
"We have a very cautious attitude as regards children, our future generation. There is data suggesting that brain tumors could develop," Yury Grigoryev, a leading scientist at the Burnazyan medical biophysical center, told a RIA Novosti press conference.

Grigoryev cited Swedish research data, which he said showed that if a child uses a cell phone from 8 to 12, then the risk of developing a brain tumor by the age of 21 increases fivefold.

Biofuels more harmful to humans than petrol and diesel, warn scientists
"The dialogue so far on biofuels has been pretty much focused on greenhouse gases alone," said David Tilman, a professor at the department of ecology, evolution and behaviour at the University of Minnesota. "And yet we felt there were many other impacts that were positive or negative not being included. We wanted to expand the analysis from greenhouse gases to at least one other item and we chose health impacts."

The health problems caused by conventional fuels are well studied and stem from soot particles and other pollution produced when they are burned. With biofuels, the problems are caused by particles given off during their growth and manufacture.

Study Analyzes Statin Drug Side Effects - NewsGrabs 1 February 2009

Monday, February 16th, 2009

First comprehensive paper on statins' adverse effects released
"Muscle problems are the best known of statin drugs' adverse side effects," said Golomb. "But cognitive problems and peripheral neuropathy, or pain or numbness in the extremities like fingers and toes, are also widely reported." A spectrum of other problems, ranging from blood glucose elevations to tendon problems, can also occur as side effects from statins.

The paper also summarizes powerful evidence that statin-induced injury to the function of the body's energy-producing cells, called mitochondria, underlies many of the adverse effects that occur to patients taking statin drugs.

Mitochondria produce most of the oxygen free radicals in the body, harmful compounds that "antioxidants" seek to protect against. When mitochondrial function is impaired, the body produces less energy and more "free radicals" are produced. Coenzyme Q10 ("Q10") is a compound central to the process of making energy within mitochondria and quenching free radicals. However, statins lower Q10 levels because they work by blocking the pathway involved in cholesterol production - the same pathway by which Q10 is produced.

Distinguishing Food from Medicine: European Court defines borderline
The decision of the EU Court, which no doubt will be greeted with some relief by European supplement manufacturers as well as consumers, sets down a firm marker that helps us understand where the borderline between food [supplements] and medicinal products is to be drawn. A recent revision of European medicines directives had left considerable confusion and uncertainty in that respect. The court intends to limit the application of pharmaceutical law to only those products sold with claims of prevention or cure of illness, and to products which, by their composition, are scientifically proven to be effective in modifying physiological functions.

EU and Codex to double allowed Aflatoxin levels in food
Aflatoxin is a mould toxin. FAO/WHO have stated that “aflatoxins are among the most potent mutagenic and carcinogenic substances known.”

Following international pressure from the International nut and dried fruit council foundation, Codex Alimentarius accepted higher level of this toxin than the EU, which in turn is now going to increase the maximum levels for aflatoxins from 4 to 10 µg/kg in almonds, hazelnuts and pistachios...

ANH calls for inquiry into EFSA work
The Alliance for Natural Health (ANH) calls today for an urgent independent inquiry into the scientific methods used by Europe’s highest authority on food safety, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

"EFSA is seemingly bending its rules to provide a required outcome,” continued Verkerk. “To do this, it’s dramatically altered the ultra-restrictive risk assessment methods it’s used on essential vitamins and minerals which it seems happy to see banned. With this fluoride opinion, it’s ignored a large body of science which points to serious risks associated with fluoride, and it’s given it a green light even after admitting that most children taking fluoride supplements would exceed the highest safe levels set by EFSA itself”, added Dr Verkerk.

EFSA has responded to the ANH attack, denying that anything but science informs its decisions. In the article, sodium monofluorophosphate is called a nutrient, which is contrary to the food supplement directive's stipulation that only essential minerals may be used in the formulation of food supplements.

Fluoride in its various forms is not added for any nutritional benefit but for prevention of tooth decay. Health authorities believe that the benefit of the hardening of tooth enamel that fluoride brings outweighs its drawbacks, which are mottled teeth (brittleness and yellow stains) and the systemic toxicity of the mineral.

EU pharma sector reform must start in Ireland - Fluoride in Water is 'illegal medicine'
The package announced by EU Commissioner Guenter Verheugen to reform the pharma sector (IMN 05/01/2009) for the benefit of European citizens, including protecting them better from counterfeit medicines, is very interesting, but as far as Ireland is concerned purely aspirational. Why is this?

Because in Ireland today, an unauthorised and untrialled counterfeit medicine – fluorosilicic acid – is distributed to millions of people by most public water plants. They do not employ licensed pharmacists nor do they provide patient information on individual dosage, needs assessment, or side effects of this medicine, all of which are statutorily required in the EU.

Mom cures baby’s mystery illness that had baffled doctors with simple yoghurt drink
When she explored the antibiotics that Riley had been given by doctors, she discovered that one of them kills natural bacteria in the body.

As a last resort, she decided to try and reintroduce this bacteria to her son by feeding him bottles of probiotics.

‘I gave him Yakult and he was fine within the first couple of days of him having it,’ she said.

Sunlight could stop short-sightedness
“The idea that ‘reading makes you short-sighted’ has been popular for a couple of hundred years. But recent data shows that the time spent indoors is a more important factor. Children who read a lot, but still go outdoors, have far less myopia.” Professor Morgan explained that myopia is essentially an eye that has grown too long, and once it is too long, you can’t shorten it again: “So you have to stop it happening in the first place.

“Our hypothesis is that the light intensity experienced outdoors - which can be hundreds of times brighter than indoor light - causes a release of dopamine, which is known to block the growth of the eyeball. This prevents it taking on the distorted shape found in myopic people. We are now testing this idea. Our hypothesis is that the protective effect is based on visible light, acting through the eye. We will be testing this over the next few months and the next stage will be a randomised clinical trial.”

FoodMatters: You Are What You Eat
Non toxic dietary healing literally runs circles around the piecemeal early detection tests and toxic drug approaches, with all manner of side effects. These drugs, even many tests themselves, are often carcinogenic and simply not designed to work with the body. Unlike mainstream toxic approaches whose side effects often lead to more diseases, the only side effects from nutrients are the curing of nearly all diseases! Unlike drugs, the practitioner can even take his patient's medicine and benefit!

Food Additive MSG may be Making Us Fat and Addicted
The findings of John Erb, that MSG addicts people to those products containing the additive and consequently makes them choose that product over others, might explain why manufacturers are adding MSG to foods in ever growing amounts and why we're getting fatter; we're addicted so we eat more and more. MSG has scientifically been proven to cause obesity in studies...

Drug-Resistant Staph Found in Midwestern Swine, Workers
The investigators found a strain of MRSA, known as ST398, in a swine production system in the Midwest, according to research published today by the science journal "PLoS One."

"Our results show that colonization of swine by MRSA was very common in one of two corporate swine production systems we studied," said Dr. Tara Smith, an associate professor of epidemiology in the University of Iowa College of Public Health and lead author of the study.

"Because ST398 was found in both animals and humans, it suggests transmission between the two," she said.

We actually manufacture drug resistant bacteria by using antibiotics quite routinely in farming. This is well known but so far, commercial interests have won out over common sense.

Farmers Call For Restructuring of Global Food System
The joint statement points out that the forum, and other high-level forums like it, are dominated by the World Bank, IMF and WTO, as well as transnational companies such as Monsanto. The groups are outraged that the small farmers, who grow 80% of the world's food, are "left only a few minutes on the floor to give their position."

They claim that the policies of these institutions and companies have failed with over one billion people now going hungry worldwide. The groups believe it's time for an alternative vision in the concept of food sovereignty.

Children electroshocked in Australia
Federal Government statistics show the use of ECT - an electric shock delivered straight to the brain - in the state's private health system increased from 1944 treatments in 2001-2002 to 6009 in 2007-2008.

About 12,000 treatments were performed in the public health system last financial year.

Medicare statistics record 203 ECT treatments on children younger than 14 - including 55 aged four and younger.

Eli Lilly Formally Pleads Guilty, Apologizes To Investors, Ignores Victims
So far, Lilly is on the hook for $2.7 billion in payouts over its nasty little mood pill and, as I noted earlier this week, the company could be forced to kick down another $4 billion to settle remaining states and class action lawsuits.

Two thoughts: the company is getting off cheap--Zyprexa has killed more than 3,400 people and injured many thousands more. Second, I can now refer to Lilly from here on out as a criminal corporation or use the adjective criminal in almost any way I want in referring to the company. So can you, and I encourage you to do so. Perhaps it's time to get some T-shirts printed up. I wonder what size the CEO wears.

Report: Eli Lilly Faces $4 Billion More To Settle Zyprexa Cases
Lilly faces at least $4 billion more in settlement monies to shut down the remaining lawsuits brought against the company over its handling of Zyprexa, its $4 billion-plus selling antipsychotic. The remaining cases involve unions, insurance companies and pension funds who've sued the company in federal court in New York State plus remaining lawsuits by 12 states who were not part of last week's $1.42 billion settlement between Lilly and the feds plus about 30 other states.

Adding $4 billion to the $2.7 billion the company has already paid out would bring the total to $6.7 billion, or more than the $4 billion-plus that Merck is paying out over Vioxx, which is the current record holder for pharma settlements.

FDA Whistleblowers Appeal for Help
FDA senior management - presumably the Office of Chief Counsel - has escalated its crackdown on nine scientists who have revealed perceived and serious irregularities in the FDA's medical device approval process. According to the most recent report from the New York Times, the scientists charge that "agency officials have acted illegally and that patients are routinely put at risk from high-risk medical devices that are approved for sale even though manufacturers have never proven that the products are either safe or effective."

ADHD drugs can cause hallucinations in some kids
U.S. Food and Drug Administration researchers analyzed data from 49 clinical studies conducted by makers of the drugs and found they can cause psychosis and mania in some patients, including some with no obvious risk factors. In some cases, children hallucinated that worms, bugs or snakes were crawling on them.

Hormone Replacement Therapy Highlights Corruption In Academic Medicine
Evidence was unearthed by two reporters at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that for several years researchers at the UW (University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health) taught medical courses at the school touting the efficacy of hormone replacement therapy for women, even after other UW researchers participating in a major clinical study of HRT had cancelled the study due to grave safety risks that cropped up around the drugs, including breast cancer and heart disease. Of course, the first group of researchers downplayed those risks in their course and on an accompanying website, which was taken down earlier this month where reporters began asking the UW questions.

The course was funded by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals to the tune of $12 million. Wyeth makes HRT drugs such a Prempro and Premarin.

Everything You Know About AIDS is Wrong
(second of three articles in the Rock Creek Free Press)
In a tragic case described by Celia Farber in the March 2006 Harpers magazine, Joyce Ann Hafford, a healthy 33 year old single mother, four months pregnant, was enrolled in an HIV drug trial, put on three anti-HIV drugs in June, and was dead by August 1. Although Hafford felt completely well prior to the drug trial and the drugs immediately made her violently ill, she stayed on them in the belief that she must, at all costs, prevent passing the HIV virus on to her unborn child. Hafford had only one HIV test prior to enrolling in the study, and was never told that pregnancy can cause a false positive HIV test.

New York Times - Children Die in Aids Drug Trials, but the Drugs are Fine, Fine, Fine
What can I say that Robert Lifton hasn’t written so clearly, and so well already? We are practicing a corrupted medicine. There is a taint of racism running through Aids science. We are over-burdening groups with the permanent and fatal ‘Aids’ diagnosis, based on faulty technology, and an immovable assumption that we then enforce by the overly-toxic regimens you witness above.

How do we propose to save children by first, giving them a death sentence based on faulty and poly-reactive (poly-diagnostic) tests [HIV Tests - Yes, They Do Not Diagnose Nor Are Specific For Only One Condition];

Then enrolling them with or without permission into drug trials with the most severe toxic effects recorded in a pharmaceutical [Nevirapine].

AHRP looks at the Vera Report on AIDS drug trials on New York Orphans
The New York City ACS guidelines waived a foster child’s right to individual consent in direct violation of federal regulations: “Separate consent need not be obtained for each child.” This waiver, we believe, denied foster children their basic human dignity and cast them to the status of guinea pigs.

Oddly, The New York Times did not consider 80 children’s deaths worthy of mention in its news report!

Irish Supplement Users Petition EU - NewsGrabs 25 January 2009

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Supplements in Europe: Irish petition gives ray of hope
The petition, submitted originally in December 2007 with the support of 60,000 Irish citizens, claims that measures to harmonise maximum levels of vitamin and mineral food supplements under the Food Supplements Directive—soon to be implemented by the European Commission—will unduly impact consumers, health stores and practitioners in Ireland.

The European Parliament’s Petitions Committee chairman insisted that the petition be kept open and requested that the issues be referred to the European Parliament’s Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) for further consideration.

EU reviews vitamin limits after Irish petition
The standards, introduced by EU directive, would restrict doses of vitamin D to the equivalent of that produced by 25 seconds of sunlight and prevent the sale of high-dose vitamin C products without prescription.

The EU food supplements directive was given the go-ahead in 2005. However, the maximum permitted levels of ingredients to be contained in supplements has not yet been set.

The standards currently being considered would restrict the sale of vitamins and minerals to very low doses. It would become illegal to sell vitamin A in a dose that can be found in more than half a carrot or to sell selenium, an important mineral, in doses larger than in a quarter of a Brazil nut.

Vitamin D 'is mental health aid'
The study found that as levels of vitamin D went down, levels of cognitive impairment went up.

Dr Iain Lang from the Peninsula Medical School, who worked on the study, said: "For those of us who live in countries where there are dark winters without much sunlight, like the UK, getting enough vitamin D can be a real problem - particularly for older people, who absorb less vitamin D from sunlight.

"One way to address this might be to provide older adults with vitamin D supplements.

FTC Threatens Christian Church for Selling Dietary Supplements
Throughout 2008, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has been on a free speech rampage, sending threatening demands to 130 companies selling dietary supplements. It has specifically targeted organizations selling anti-cancer dietary supplements. The typical FTC legal assault involves the sending of a threatening letter to the company or church being targeted, where FTC demands to:

• Confiscate customer records.
• Confiscate all banking and financial records.
• Drag the church or business into court for refusing to comply.

Organizations that refuse to meet the FTC's demands are threatened with the following:

• Arrest and imprisonment.
• Complete confiscation of their inventory.
• Being charged with crimes by the FTC. Such crimes are heard in the FTC's own kangaroo court, which is subject to no law.

It's not for nothing that the FTC is known in dietary supplement circles as 'the Gestapo'. Demands are enforced by disproportionate threat and coercion. The victims are made to "settle" the matter by promising to never do again what the FTC contested. The "consent" extracted in this way precludes recourse to the normal courts.

From Genomics to Epigenomics
Decades of sequencing and dissecting the human genome have confirmed that the real causes of ill health are environmental and social. It is not the genetic messages encoded in genomic DNA but environmentally-induced epigenetic modifications that overwhelmingly determine people’s health and well-being
Dr. Mae-Wan Ho

By September 2008, David B. Goldstein at Duke University, a leading young population geneticist known partly for his research into the genetic origins of the Jews, said the effort to pin down disease susceptibility genes is not working.

There is absolutely no question that for the whole hope of personalized medicine, the news has been just about as bleak as it could be,” he told the New York Times.

The reason for this disappointing outcome, in his view, is that natural selection has been far more efficient at eliminating disease-causing variants than people thought, so these variants are rare. It takes large, expensive studies with hundreds of patients in different countries to find even common disease variants, so rare variants are simply beyond reach.

It’s an astounding thing,” said Goldstein, “that we have cracked open the human genome and can look at the entire complement of common genetic variants, and what do we find? Almost nothing. That is absolutely beyond belief.”

What a pity ... pharmaceutical companies are betting the farm on gene-based medicine, even to the tune of admitting that most of their medicines on the market today only work in a rather small percentage of patients. Yet, it seems that those who say health depends primarily on environmental and nutritional factors have been right all along.

Epigenetic Toxicology
Environmental toxins modify our genes and affect our children and grandchildren; enormous implications for risk assessment of synthetic chemical and other xenobiotics
- Dr. Mae-Wan Ho
It is estimated that more than 100 000 xenobiotics are on the market in the European Union, some 70 000 are potentially hazardous for human health and/or the ecosystem. The vast majority of these chemicals have not been adequately tested for safety before they were released. Many of them are endocrine disruptors similar to those whose epigenetic effects have been reviewed in this article. Common household products – detergents, disinfectants, plastics and pesticides – contain endocrine disruptors.

Measles virus may be effective prostate cancer treatment
A new study appearing in The Prostate has found that certain measles virus vaccine strain derivatives, including a strain known as MV-CEA, may prove to be an effective treatment for patients with advanced prostate cancer. The findings show that this type of treatment, called virotherapy, can effectively infect, replicate in and kill prostate cancer cells.

And here we are trying our best to eradicate measles, a relatively harmless childhood illness. Then later on, we're offered a 'special strain' of the measles virus to eliminate a tumor but only AFTER we're just about ready to die of cancer. Go figure.

The “ATP profile” test is a powerful diagnostic tool and can differentiate patients who have fatigue and other symptoms as a result of energy wastage by stress and psychological factors from those who have insufficient energy due to cellular respiration dysfunction. The individual factors indicate which remedial actions, in the form of dietary supplements, drugs and detoxification, are most likely to be of benefit, and what further tests should be carried out.

A Call for a Re-evaluation of the AIDS Dogma
(first of three articles in the Rock Creek Free Press)
John Scythes, one of the researchers on the paper, reports that he has not found a single case of an immune suppressed patient (regardless of HIV status) who has died of complications of syphilis since the discovery of AIDS in the early 80s. The implications of this are staggering. It is simply not possible that syphilis stopped being fatal just as the new disease of AIDS came on the scene.

HIV, AIDS, and age: HIV/AIDS theory is wrong
The age distribution of deaths has remained, throughout, virtually superposable on the age distributions of first positive tests, and of diagnoses of illness, — which thereby demonstrates both lack of any significant “latent period” and lack of any significant life-extension from antiretroviral drugs.

Beyond all that: the age distribution of deaths is, in and of itself, independently of the argument above, a strike against HIV/AIDS theory. In all illnesses and diseases, among those who are stricken it is young-to-middle-aged adults who survive better than do older adults or very young children. With “HIV/AIDS”, however, that is not at all the case: the probability of dying from “HIV disease” among those who are “infected” does not increase rapidly with increasing age.

Nothing about age and HIV/AIDS makes any sense. The numbers simply don’t add up — or, rather, they add up to a resounding disproof, a series of disproofs, of the misguided hypothesis that “HIV” caused “AIDS”.

Israel Used Depleted Uranium in Gaza
It is not the first time Israel has been accused of using ordnance containing depleted uranium, which makes shells and bombs harder and increases their penetrating power. The Israeli army declined comment. But the U.S. and NATO have used uranium-depleted rounds in Bosnia and Iraq.

According to the World Health Organization, the weapons are lightly radioactive, though "under most circumstances, use of DU will make a negligible contribution to the overall natural background levels of uranium in the environment."
